Sculpture # 44: “8 Holes with Black Stripe Through Negative Space” July 2023 $1000 USD
This Eight hole-negative space-continuous black line incorporates every hole and each of the six surfaces, and never intersects itself. This creation is an extension of #42 above and was much more complex to execute and paint. The initial block when the sculpture was completed and sanded was beautiful and quite geometric/symmetric with the holes allowing more internal light. With the black line the whole piece changed as the black line
broke up the white and ones eye went to the black line and wondering where the line was going. As the painting of the line proceeded I needed to number each hole and each face because as one rotated the stone for the painting the orientation of the holes changed. Since I did not want to paint the line continuously from start to finish (It would have taken much longer) the route of the line was marked with tape. Painting was then completed by painting non continuous sections (several at a time).
Wt: 54 pounds, Ht 12 inches, Length 12 inches. Oamaru stone and acrylic paint and a waterproof/UV-proof protective varnish applied.
