Erin at 50

Sculpture #31 — October 2020

9 pounds, 2 oz. H 13 1/4”, W 6 1/2” and L 6 3/4” and is composed of Oamaru stone (New Zealand limestone), steel dowels and acrylic paint.

This is for my daughter Erin to celebrate her 50th birthday. She has amazed me during these 50 years, gathering friends from all over the world, traveling extensively and living in France, Norway, and New Zealand for long periods of time. The base represents the colors within the flag of every country she has resided and also the Serbian flag of her heritage. The base also represents France, the friends the regions special for her. The next is my representation of New Zealand. The green of the paddocks and then the forests and the white is the southern alps, the browns represent the other agriculture. The triangle is Norway with its rugged coast and fiords and mountainous terrain that rises from the coast and the white on the top is the winter snow. The small golden patch is the lower area around Oslo. Next is Nevada and its famous Pyramid Lake represented by the pyramid shape. One one side is Lake Tahoe with the blue, the forests, and then the purple of the surrounding mountains looking at Mt. Talac. The other sides represent the high desert and the Basin and range that are so prevalent in the state. The top sphere is representative of Erin’s dances, the places she has traveled and the people/friends she has collected during her life to 50!
