Sculpture # 46: “Moby Dick”, December 27, 2023
For a sculpture to take 4 years to complete you would think of something like the “David” by
Michelangelo! The original was just a square column with differing distress or carving on four surfaces—I didn’t bond so it languished year after year and then I thought, this could be a fish/whale. Painting was a challenge, especially the bottom where the whale was coming out of the water. I just started painting, and I like the result. The other painted areas we traditional Native Northwest coast Americans or Japanese style. Oamaru stone, acrylic paint, threaded steel dowels, masonry glue and caulking.
Wt: 35.6 pounds, Height 20”, girth at the center of the whale 4/1/4”, base 8 x 7”.
